It's hard, but I guess that's what we should be trying to do.
This morning I was one paragraph into this story

and blurted out, "Rubbish!"
Maybe I'm mellowing, or maybe my vocabulary is failing me, but at least "rubbish" is a word that can be used in polite company.
For what it's worth, here's the e-mail I sent to the President on that official, allegedly-not-ignored web site:
Rubbish:"WASHINGTON — President Obama has defended conditions in a Marine Corps jail for Pfc. Bradley E. Manning, who is accused of leaking classified government documents to WikiLeaks. The president said Friday that he had been assured that such measures as forcing Private Manning to sleep without clothing were justified and for his own safety."

Mr. President, please don't insult the intelligence of your supporters, like me.
The only reasonable explanation for the treatment of PFC Manning is that it is low-impact torture, likely intended to extract a false confession that would enable a mendacious prosecution of WikiLeaks for what is clearly an act of legitimate journalism.
You only demean yourself by trying to argue otherwise. It's like trying to put lipstick on a pig.
