Houston schoolkids are in for a good year of learning

From the New York Times  www.nytimes.com/...

The Houston Independent School District announced that classes would not resume until Sept. 11. Superintendent Richard Carranza said that more than 10 percent of the city’s schools sustained water damage or lost power. The district relaxed its school uniform rules through January. All of the city’s public school students, regardless of family income, will be eligible for three free meals per day for the entire school year.

[Emphasis added.]

With three square meals a day for five (or seven?) days a week, I’ll bet children in the poorer schools in Houston will show a nice boost in their test scores in the 2017-18 school year.

To borrow from Napoleon, a student learns better on a full stomach.

I imagine someone will watch the results of this unintended natural experiment.  Let’s not let the governor suppress those results.
